QR-codes into art world

The qr-codes are also conquering the art world.

Today, we’ve known that the next Festival Internacional de Arte Contemporáneo de Barcelona (BAC!08)  will include a huge canvas with more than 500 QRcodes.

The name of the work is LIVESHOW! and it’s divided in two parts: a qrcoded mural and a bluetotooh dish or antenna which will allow visitors to download free a qrcode reader application on their mobile phones.

With the application installed on the phone, visitors will be able to decode the messages on the qrcodes: 500 famous slogans on ads from international brands.

The artist, Sergio Kano,  considers/explaines the work “(…) shows in a subliminal and direct way, the reality of a social phenomena, the communication one, and more directly, the advertising one, and its influence on human’s life(…)

If you’re interested on seeing it inperson, you could found LiveShow! on the CCCB Museum in Barcelona from 2nd to 28th December. Come on, it’s on ours! ( Yes,… it’s free)

Pet Shop Boys use QR-Codes

Last Pet Shop Boys’ project stands out for their use of the vanguardistic usage of a language, technology and aesthetics. One of the videoclips includes an original animation based on QR-Codes.

It’s worth both watching the video and reading through the contents of the website which are interactive as well.

It’s amazing to see how the new technologies (every time less new) jumpinto artistic works and distribution business. PS Boys have algo posted a jukebox so user can listen their last job and links to a few on-line music stores.

It’a a shame that innovative people are always the same people.

King Size QR-Code

Here you see a DVD campaign “28 weeks later”DVD  in the middle of London.

28 Weeks Later

As Iain Tait says in his blog it is a “multi-layered” capaign. There will be people that gets a message (“Cool! A QR Code, let’s see what is on it”), people that will get another message (“what’s that? This 28 weeks people are weird”) or no message at all (“What’s that?”)

In order to be exposed to 100% of the message you MUST:

  • Know what a QR-Code is
  • Have a reader with you
  • Be across the street, otherwise there is not distance enough to fit the QR in your screen.

What % of the population in your city would be able to read it?
